Hottest skills for 2009
Source: ComputerWorld
US-based Computerworld says that despite the grim financial
picture, demand for certain types of IT skills remains strong – and
that some CIOs are building this know-how internally (ie through
training) as hiring freezes become more common.
The hottest skills, according to Computerworld's annual Forecast
survey, are:
- Programming/application development,
particularly in SAP or .Net
- Help desk/technical support, particularly for
people who offer a blend of deep technical expertise and solid
customer-service abilities
- Project management; apparently employers want
people with project management certification, even at the vice
president level.
- Networking, including specialists with
implementation experience in the convergence of voice, e-mail,
video, instant messaging and other communications
systems
- Business intelligence, including people with
data mining, data warehousing and data management skills
- Security, including those with skills in SAP
security, network and wireless security, and those with Certified
Information Systems Security Professional accreditation.
- Web 2.0
- Data center projects, and particularly server
and storage virtualization
- Telecommunications, with VoIP and projects involving
unified communications continuing to drive demand for
blended telecommunications and networking skills.
